Safety at sea: crew to cyber – with DNV

🛟 Is shipping ready for the next safety challenges?

Last week’s DNV-sponsored event brought together shipowners, insurers, and industry leaders to tackle some big questions about the future of maritime safety.

Using insights from DNV’s latest Safety Report (based on Lloyd’s List maritime incident data, 2014–2024), we saw how casualty trends have shifted over the years and how vital it is to stay proactive. Does anyone remember the trends? Are we better or worse now?

Risks are evolving, driven by new fuels, cargoes, and technologies, with regulations desperately evolving to keep up. One thing is clear: the risk landscape is changing fast, and we need the right systems in place to manage it.

In an increasingly complex and regulated world, organisations like DNV provide invaluable guidance, helping the maritime industry navigate risk, ensure compliance, and build resilience.

A big thank you to Øystein Goksøyr, Head of Safety, Risk and Systems at DNV, for sharing his expertise and to DNV for sponsoring such a valuable discussion.
